Preparing your home for your new puppy

Creating a secure and safe environment ensures your puppy thrives while giving you peace of mind as you bond with your new companion.

Here are some important tools to help with the transition of having a safe environment for your new puppy.

1.  Secure electrical cords – puppies like to chew and chewing on an electrical cord can cause some pretty bad injuries.

2.  Remove toxic plants – plants like lilies, aloe and philodendrons are poisenous to dogs.  Make sure to put them in a place that your new puppy can’t get to.  There are others that are poisenous, this is just a small list.

3.  Hazardous chemical – make sure these are put away safely so that your puppy won’t be curious and get into them.

4.  Block off dangerous areas  – use baby gates to restrict access to staircases, kitchens, or other unsafe spaces.

5.  Cover trash cans – use pet-proof lids or store cans in cabinets to avoid access to harmful items.

6.  Protect furniture and rugs – spray furniture with pet-safe deterrents and remove or secure area rugs.

7.  Provide safe toys – offer appropriate chew toys to keep your purppy occupied and give you
