Having a schedule planned out for your new pup can make your life a lot easier, and you little pup a lot stress free.
- Feeding schedule. puppies need to eat three times a day. Older mature dogs only eat one to two. But for your growing little puppy they need more nutrients. Plan accordingly, around your own meals. Wash out his water bowl and make sure it’s always filled.
- Potty Breaks. Make sure to take your puppy outside regularly, at least every two to four hours and after every change in activity. This is crucial during house training and will help minimize accidents.
- Playtime is Important! Your puppy needs regular exercise and interaction, but avoid intense activities like long runs or jumping. Focus on play, mental stimulation, and yard time. Experts recommend waiting until about one year old for serious exercise, as growth rates and energy levels vary by breed. Shorter play sessions are better than one long one, so include walks, toy play, and bonding in their daily routine.
- Naps and Bedtime.
Young puppies sleep a lot, often up to 16-18 hours a day. Plan for several quiet nap times throughout the day, and make sure family members, especially children, avoid disturbing him while he sleeps. He needs his rest! Consider placing his crate in a calm, quiet area to avoid distractions during naptime.
For bedtime, some owners set a consistent time for their puppy to settle down, while others let them sleep when they do. Establishing a regular bedtime may help your puppy adjust to a routine more easily.
